Similar to roads and bridges, regular use of utility infrastructure also causes wear and tear on infrastructure systems, requiring occasional replacement. Unlike the roads and bridges we see every day, we cannot see the deterioration of underground pipes that have delivered natural gas to our homes for generations.
After nearly a century of providing reliable natural gas delivery, many of the Commonwealth’s gas delivery systems are in need of replacement. Utility companies around the country have put systems into place to efficiently replace and repair reported problems within a reasonable timeframe. Gas companies are reporting an increased number of gas leaks from just a few years ago and others have taken a proactive stance to replace portions of their systems rather than adding a ‘patch’ to the aging pipe.
The media have taken notice of our failing infrastructure and many newspapers have published stories regarding the need to replace aging infrastructure. |
